How can investors, firms and policymakers respond to climate risks and support sustainable change? In Tinbergen Institute’s Sustainable Finance elective, you will explore the role of financial markets in addressing major societal challenges, with a particular focus on climate finance.
Part of the Research Master’s programme in Business Data Science, this on-campus course combines current research, empirical evidence and key theoretical insights from a rapidly developing field.
Who can apply?
Sustainable Finance is an elective course within Tinbergen Institute’s Research Master’s programme in Business Data Science. Applications are open to:
- Research Master’s students
- PhD candidates
- Professionals with a relevant academic background
The course offers an opportunity to expand your expertise in sustainable finance, develop research skills, and learn from leading scholars in the field. You can apply for this individual course without enrolling in the full Research Master’s programme.
What will you learn
The course focuses on three central areas of sustainable finance:
- Corporate Finance and Investments How do sustainable investors allocate capital and monitor firms? How do firms respond to these practices?
- Asset Pricing What is the price impact of sustainable investing and climate risks? Can climate risks be hedged in financial markets?
- Household Finance What motivates individuals to engage in sustainable investing?
Course objectives
By the end of the course, you will be able to engage independently with high-quality research at the frontier of sustainable finance. The course has a strong focus on empirical and experimental research, while also introducing the theoretical frameworks needed to understand the field.
Course dates
The course will be taught in Block 3, starting the week of January 4, 2027.
