Asymmetric Valuations in Charity Auctions

This project studies how auction format affects charitable giving when all bidders care equally about the charity and know each other’s valuations. While previous research suggests that all-pay auctions usually raise more money than the winner-pay auctions such as English auctions, we hypothesize, based on game-theoretic analysis, that the English auction can generate higher revenue than the all-pay auction. This holds when the bidders have different valuations of the item.
