Marleen Huysman receives NWO grant for research on the Impact of Generative AI on Knowledge Work, Management and Organizations
Faculty member Prof. dr. Marleen Huysman (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) has been awarded funding from The Dutch Research Council (NWO) as part of the Open Competition - SSH L. With the project ‘GenAI@Work: Studying the Impacts of Generative AI on Knowledge Work, Management and Organizations’ Huysman, jointly with Reza Mousavi Baygi, Ella Hafermalz, Anne-Sophie Mayer and Wendy Günther, aims to uncover the intended and unintended consequences of integrating GenAI technologies in real-world work settings.
Marleen and her AI@Work research group will dive deep into organizations to understand how and why Generative AI tools influence knowledge work and its management. Using a process research approach with ethnography as the main method, they will uncover the intended and unintended consequences when GenAI technologies are integrated into work settings. This understanding is vital for demystifying the current speculations, fears and hypes associated with GenAI and work. The GenAI project is a follow up to the AI-Know open competition project, in which the AI@work group studied how to develop AI in such way that the work of professionals is augmented”. The AI@Work research group of the School of Business at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam transcends the boundaries between technology and organizational practice. It includes engineers trained in the sociology of work and social scientists with hands-on training in AI techniques.
